In the women's doubles quarter-finals Misses Honrotin and Andrews defeated Misses Couquerque and Thomas, O—G, (i— i, 6—4.
The semi-finals in the singles provided stirring contests. Stcfani fully extended Cramm before losing the fifth set, and the Crawford-Boussus encounter took two hours before Crawford won, after a great exhibition of all-round tennis.
The Cramm-Stefani match showed a great ambidexterous tactician matched against a brilliant driver. Cramm looked a winner all through, but the Italian pressed him hard till the end of the fourth set, when Cramm's stamina prevailed.
The best tennis of the tournament was seen in the third set of the Craw-ford-Boussus match, after each had won a set. Crawford three times pulled up from 15 —10 to win the games. Boussus began to show the effect of the strenuous play at 5—5, and Crawford, putting on more pressure, won the set. After the rest Boussus spurted and won three games in four minutes and led 4—l. Crawford then brilliantly won five games in a row for the match.
The present holders of the French titles are:—Men's singles, J. H. Crawford (Australia); women's singles, Miss M. C. Scriven (England); men's doubles, G. P. Hughes and F. J. Perry (England); •women's doubles, Mme. Mathieu (J ranee) and Miss Ryan (U.S.A.); mixed doubles, J. H. Crawford (Australia) and Mies Scriven (England).
