SOCCER FOOTBALL.
SATURDAY'S FIXTURES
FINISH OF FIRST ROUND. SHORE AND THISTLE AT BLANDFORD. The seventh series of matches in the Auckland senior competition cm Saturday will bring the first round to a conclusion. Two hard games should eventuate on Blandford Park, where the first-, will be between Eastern Suburbs and Mount Albert Grammar Old Boys. The Grammar Old Boys are a point better than Suburbs with a total of seven from six games, while the latter have but half a dozen. The teams are evenly matched, play a forceful panic and are both able to maintain ;i fast pace for the full 90 minutes. Shore United will pay their second visit to Blandford Park for the main game against Thistle, the undefeated leaders of the competition. While the Devonport players never seem to take to the conditions at headquarters, they nevertheless are capable of springing a surprise. Their vigorous style is in striking contrast to the combined tactics of the Scots. Shore has a sound defence, and the attack is virile and speedy, and should certainly offer strenuous opposition to the leaders.
Y.M.C.A. and Comrades will try conclusions on Western Springs, while Ponsonby are called upon to make the journey to Onehunga to play the locals.
