OFFSIDE RULE.

VALIDITY QUESTION.

RULING BY MAGISTRATE.

CONCERN FELT IN OTAGO. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, this day. Mr. A. E. Ansell, M.P. for Chalmers, has sent a telegram to the Minister of Transport, stating that motorists are deeply concerned with the ruling of Mr. T. E. Maunsell, S.M., at Kelson to the effect that the offside rule is null and void, and urging that the position be investigated and the rule made effective.

The Otago Motor Club, in a statement which it has issued, says it would be a great pity if this rule, recognised the world over, were upset by a technicality, and urges motorists still to obey it till something better is brought in.

A Press Association message from Nelson on Saturday was as follows: — "Holding that the present regulation goes further than statute authority, and accordingly that it is null and void, Mr. T. E. Maunsell, S.M., dismissed an information against a motor cyclist for failing to observe the offside rule in giving way to traffic on the right."
