GIGANTIC SCALE.
Plans to Exterminate Plague Of Grasshoppers. DAMAGE IN CANADA. WINNIPEG, May 27. In an effort to combat the countless billions of grasshoppers which are threatening approximately 48 per cent of the wheat yield of Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta, plans on a gigantic scale have been completed for distributing poison bait over a 2000-mile front.
The Departments of Agriculture of the three provinces estimate that the cost of the plans will be 750,000 dollars, the great bulk of which will be spent in Saskatchewan, which is suffering most severely from the pest.
Hundreds of stations have been established throughout the territory for the manufacture and distribution of the poison bait. Posters have been printed outlining the method to be adopted.
