Bro. Whitmore, the newly-installed Noble Grand of Epsom Lodge No. 88 1.0.0. F. has appointed chiefly young members as his subordinate officers. A school of instruction has been formed, and the ceremonial "work is being rehearsed under the tuition of one of the older members. The first initiation will be held very soon, and some good work is expected to be seen. Bro. Ron. Whale, the new degree master of the lodge, is also doing very good work with his team. As a ritualist Bro. Whale is one of the best, and with the experience already gained ,as an officer, the degree work of the lodge will no doubt'be well up to the high standard that is now expected at Epsom. The two old stalwarts of the lodge, Bros. Hooper and Mulliolland, are again right and left hand supporters of the Noble Grand. This must be close on the fortieth time for Bro. Hooper, a great record of service. Bro. Bond, P.G., is ably filling the secretary's chair, with a very capable officer in Bro. Patrick as recording secretary. The father of the lodge, Bro. As chairman of ,the social committee much of the success of that branch of the lodge's activities must be put to his credit. Anotliei old member is P.G. Bro. Gribble, who has just relinquished the warden's chair: Bro. Gribble. has faithfully served the lodge in various offices for twenty-five years and will no doubt be wearing the coveted Ion" service medal before the year is out. Bro. Beckett, P.G., still takes a keen interest in the doings of the lodge, although hot now able" to attend as regularly as he would like. As secretary he° laid the , foundation of the sound financial basis upon which Epsom Lodge now rests. The service of these ,and other old members must' be an inspiration to the younger -recruits who. have. j„st taken office: and Epsom should be able to look forward to "many years of continued success.

Court Maid Marian, ladies' section of the Ancierit Order of Foresters, paid honour to their secretary, Sister L. S. Garratt, in recognition of. her services, by holding a social on Monday last in the Foresters' Hall, Albert Street,, during which Sister Garratt was the recipient of a handsome silver medal. In making the presentation the district treasurer, Bro. Porter, eulogised the various duties performed by the secretary, and the esteem which site has justly earned, not only from her own Court, but from all members of the society. Sister Garratt will complete 40 years' membership of the Court in June, being one of the foundation members in 1894. For 33 years she has held the office of secretary, in which time the Court has advanced in membership by a very considerable number. The first district secretaty for the A.O.F. in the Auckland Province was her father, the late Bro. H. T. Garratt, the number of Courts then incorporated being seven, whereas now the Courts in the district number 31. The late Mrs. H. T. Garratt also played an important part in the development of the Order, and the growth of the society in Auckland is a testimony to the active work of this family. A further appreciation of Sister Garratt's services is that her name has been placed on Court Maid Marian's Respect Board, under the heading of "Special Merit," an honour only bestowed on members of outstanding worth. In replying, Sister Garratt expressed her thanks, and further pledged herself to' the interests of the Order. Sister Helen Le Houx, a founder of Court Maid Marian, then gave a short and interesting resume of some of the activities of the Court in its earlier days. A very large number of members and visitors was present to pay tribute to the guest of honour, and the proceedings were capably carried through under the direction of the Chief Ranger, Sister E. G. Harvey. The various dances were much enjoyed, culminating a very happy evening, and the music was kindly catered for by Sister Leece.
