FIRE ON TRAIN.

EXCITEMENT AT TE KTJTTI. (From Our Own Correspondent.) TE KUITI, this day. As the goods train from Taumarunui to Te Kuiti was approaching the local station at noon on Saturday a truck of firewood was observed by the engine stall to be on fire. There was no alternative but to continue the journey as rapidly as possible. Repeated short blasts from the engine caused the fire alarm to be sounded. The brigade met the train at King Street' crossing, and in a few minutes subdued the flames. The truck, an iron one, was little damaged, but the firewood was mostly burned out. The fire was caused by a spark from the engine.
