WHANGAREI, Saturday.
A meeting of tlie committee comprising representatives of local bodies formed as the result of a suggestion by the Chamber of Commerce, to con ; si'der raising funds to provide work for necessitous cases of the unemployed during stand-down week, was held yesterday. "The local bodies represented, the Borough Council, County Council, and Harbour Board, were willing to do the best they could, and in the meantime and until the next meeting of the committee 48 men would be employed in the next stand-down week for two days.
