BRIGHT INNINGS.

IMPROVING FORM.

Don's Punishing Treatment of Bowlers. CENTURY IN EVEN TIME. fTJnited P.A.—Electric Telegraph—Copyright) (Received 12.30 p.m.) LONDON, May 2. Ponsford and Woodfull opened for Australia confidently. Ponsford played a series of crisp attacking shots before being caught in the slips. Jackson was keeping an admirable length, with considerable nip from the pitch. Bradman once almost played him on. After tea Bradman opened his shoulders, slamming Perks and Brook to the boundary to draw level with Woodfull, who had 40 minutes' start. Bradman reached 50 in an hour. Worcester's fielding was excellent, but Bradman was dealing out punishment to all the bowlers, his form improving as he went along. Woodfull, after a lingering half-hour in the forties, attempted a big drive and was well caught behind the bowler. Kippax survived only four balls. MeCabe was almost bowled next ball, but undeterred he hit cheerfully. Bradman, meanwhile, was steadily approaching the century. Now seeing the ball perfectly he was placing it at will. His hundred came with a slashing pull from Brook. Made in even time, the century included 13 fours.
