BYRD'S ISOLATION.
Explorer's Shack Covered by Heavy Drift. MEANS OF ESCAPE EFFECTED. (Received 1.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, April 29. A wireless message from the Byrd expedition at Little America states that Rear-Admiral Byrd lias completed a month of isolation in his advance weather base and is now entering the second week of complete darkness. By radio he retains the leadership of the expedition. Yesterday he instructed Dr. Poulter to have full resources ready in the early spring to start extensive scientific exploratory projects, to have tractors and aeroplanes thoroughly overhauled during the winter night. The leader revealed that the drift is piling over his shack and has compelled him to start a third tunnel as a means of escape in the event of the drift trapping him. His shack is wholly buried, the only access to the surface being through a double trap door in the roof of the vestibule. He said that otherwise all was well and his meteorological instruments were functioning despite the intense cold.
