OLD SETTLERS' REUNION.

RAGLAN FUNCTION. The annual reunion of the Raglan district old settlers was held in the Town Hall, Raglan, on Saturday, 'llie weather was perfect and a large gathering resulted. The hostesses for the day were the Women's institute and the Women's Divisions of the district. After the National Anthem, Mrs. Moore, who occupied the chair, called for a moment's silence in memory of those who had passed away during the year. Speeches of welcome followed from Mrs. I'. N. Bernard, president of the Raglan Women's Institute; Mrs. Moore, ill the absence of Mrt>. O. E. Pcgler, president of the Raglan Women's Division; Miss McCracken, president, Te Mata Women's Division; Airs. J. Cogswell, president, 1e Uku Women's Institute; Mrs. Andrews, president, To Hutewai Women's Division, and Mrs. A. L. l'eglcr, past-presi-dent, Raglan Women's Institute. Mr. V. E. Peglcr, president of the • Old Settlers' Association, explained the formation of the association, and Mrs. Noffke read the rules. Mr. Stewart Ileid, M.P., spoke about the early days, and what great faith the early pioneers had in their country. A special welcome was accorded to Mrs. Vernon and Mr. Gibbisou, who had both been in the district over 70 years.

After lunch a mixed programme, arranged by tho ladies, entertained the quests. Mr. J. M. Thompson, chairman, spoke on behalf of the Town Board. Mr. E. Schnackenberg, Kawhia, told some very interesting historical details about the district and paid tribute to the early missionaries, pioneers and pioneer sea captains who made settlement possible.

Mi-. V. E. Pegler asked for a vote of thanks to the hostesses, when all present adjourned for afternoon tea before dispersing.
