RAGWORT PEST.

ERADICATION IN COUNTY.

It was reported at a meeting of the Manukau County Council this morning that sodium chlorate had been extensively used in an endeavour to eppe with the ragwort pest in parts of the county. Flowering plants of the weed had been destroyed, and investigation was made of areas treated earlier in the season. In the Wharekawa area sprayin" and burning were carried out extensively, and arrangements had been made to spray areas at Ardmore, and on the Wairoa Kiver and at Papatoetoe. In another part of the county weeds investigated proved to be fireweed ana sorrel.
