NORTHCOTE BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The Northcote Borough Council .met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. R. Martin, presiding. Finances.—The town clerk reported that the bank overdraft was £2551, as compared with £4114 at the same date last year. o.f the consolidated rate, £5437 out of £7337, representing 74.1 per cent, had been collected. Of the total arreats at March 31 last, £5606, the sum of £242 was statute-barred, £119 had been remitted, and £700 represented Crown rates other than special rates. This left £4544 legally collectable, of which amount £3794 had been collected.
Wharf Repairs.—A communication from the Auckland Harbour Board advised that repairs were to be carried out to tlfe vehicular pontoon at the Northcote wharf, and that while the work was in hand the vehicular service would have to be diverted to Birkenhead.
Football Ground.—The Northcote and Birkenhead Ramblers League Football Club sought the use of the municipal ground on each alternate Saturday. It was decided to grant the club the same privileges as those granted to clubs in other codes.
Municipal Band—The Birkenhead Council advised that it was proposed to reconstitute the Birkenhead Municipal Band by extending to the residents *of Northcote the opportunity of participating in the management. Representatives were appointed to confer with the 'band executive. Amalgamation. Scheme. —It "was decided to co-operate in obtaining advice from the Department of Internal Affairs concerning the amalgamation with at least two other boroughs on the North Shore. Pictures on Good Friday.—By four votes to three the council resolved to grant permission to show talking pictures at the local theatre on Good Friday. The motion was o-pposed by the Mayor and Messrs. C. J. W. Taylor and W. C. Ellis. It was decided to inform the Rev. F. A. Thompson, Presbyterian minister, who applied for permission to use the theatre for a special service on the evening of Good Friday, that the builfjing was not available.
Vehicular Time-Table.—On the motion of Mr. A. G. Osborne, the Birkenhead Council is to be asked to join in combined action, with a view to requesting the Devonport Ferry Company to improve the vehicular ferry time-table. The Harbour Board advised that the vehicular trafhc would .be diverted to Birkenhead during repairs to the Nortlicote staging.
