TAKAPUNA AFFAIRS.
MEETING OF THE COUNCIL.
Several matters of importance to the borough were reported on by the Mayor, Mr. J. Guiniven, at last night's meeting of the Takapuna Borough Council.
Mr. Guiniven said that during his recent visit to Wellington to the Municipal Conference he had interviewed officials of the Treasury and Audit Departments in connection with obtaining permission to surface Walters Hill in material other than bitumen. Both Departments had agreed to the council's use of other material. However, validating legislation would be necessary for a change, and the way was now open for the council to prepare a plan for submission to the Internal Affairs Department. Mr. Guiniven also reported that the Audit Department was well satisfied with the work of the town clerk and his staff during the past year, and the manner in which they had conducted tho affairs of the council. The Mayor said he had been advised in Wellington that the services of a Government expert would be available free of charge to advise in connection with the proposals for amalgamation of the North Shore boroughs. Most of the work could be done in Wellington, the work necessary in Auckland occupying about three da vs.
After discussing the matters mentioned by the Mayor, the council decided to hold a special meeting next Wednesday night in order to deal with them more fully.
A deputation headed by Mr. S. Brittain Bull asked for the removal of the parking restrictions at Hall's Corner. It was decided to rearrange the bus stops to allow of parking on one side of the shopping area.
