WAGES AND PURCHASING POWER.

Re the letter from Mr. A. S. M.P., may I ask his views on wage "cuts"' under the following circumstances: A dairy company reduces its wages bill from, say, £2000 to £1")00. Would this be considered as ( reducing purchasing power? The suppliers to the company would have an additional £T>oo to spend, and they would not have it hniT 'f everyone had his own! The same applies to any other industry that lives by exporting—' so paying higher wages will hardly help its' to turn the corner. It is not my desire to see any reduction in living standards, rather the reverse; but one likes to be in the swim. S. PETRIE.
