HEROIC WORK.

DOCTORS HONOURED. FIRST AID TO MINERS. PRESENTATIONS AT WAIHI. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WAIHI, this day. One of.jthe largest gatherings held in the Waihi district assembled at the King's Hall last evening on the- occasion of a citizens' farewell to Dr. Eric H. Bridgman, and a presentation to Drs. [Bridgman and L. R. Hetherington, by the Miners' Union, in recognition of services to injured miners on the occasion of the cage accident in the Waihi mine on July 26 last. Both doctors went underground immediately after the accident and gav?, first aid to the injured men. The Mayor, Mr. W. M. Wallnutt, presided, and presented Dr. Bridgman, on behalf of the citizens, with a wallet containing bank notes. The Mayor paid a tribute to the work of the nursing staff and the members of the St. John Ambulance on that occasion. Mr. E. Dye, president of the Miners' Union, presented Dr. Bridgman with a gold wristlet watch and a fountain pen, and Dr. Hetherington with a crystal goblet set. He said the gifts were in recognition of the heroic manner in which both doctors worked in the relief of suffering to miners. During the presentation function Mrs. Hetherington was given a shower bouquet at the hands of little Miss Bice. Both doctors suitably replied and were enthusastically cheered.
