TE AROHA TOPICS.

KING MESTOR'S FUTURE. GAY ROSE IX GOOD NICK. To Arolia will be well represented at the Ohinemuri meeting next week, as those executing galloping work in view of this fixture include King Mestor, Record Flight, King Ara, Unoeo, Val Watch, Engi, Xlll Lap, Gay Rose, Lagoon, Mungatoon, and Koyal Secret.

It it* intended to race King Mestor over longer distances in future, and he has been nominated for the Ohinemuri Cup of one mile and a quarter. The King Lu gelding in his work gives promise ot getting middle distances successfully before the end of the autuiuu.

After having been on the easy list for some weeks Kin« Briefly was given a five furlongs spin on Saturday morning. He skipped over the distance fairly well, but appeared to be short of a couple of gallops. Ou Tuesday it was found that he had not properly recovered from tl*> effects of a rather severe co d, so his owner, .Mr. K. B. Hines, decided ou giving hiin a lengthy spell. It is intended that Unoeo shall compete in tho Ma"uire Steeplechase at Paeroa next week. There .being no steeplechase course here he will not be schooled over big jumps, it. being considered that lilts natural aptitude for jumping will be in his favour.

King's Archer wis not nominated for Paeroa, it having been proved that small courses are not in his favour. The Marble Arch neldins was very loyally (supported by local sportsmen for his Pukekoho engagement, which he duly won. By Easter time, C. E. Mallowes will have the bay guiding in tip-top trim, in view of events at Ellerelie. Mr. A. E. Lonnard's Gay Rose is all the better for her racing at the To Aroha meeting, and with ordinary luck the Guy SliieUl mare should get into the money boforc long. She belongs to a lengthy lino of winners, and, properly placed, should be quite a payable proposition. ,The Lucullus—Gold Piano gelding Record Flight has been iu work just twelve mouths. He started his racing career at To Awamutu in December, and has since raced unsuccessfully at Ellcrslie, Thames, und Matamata. Ilia next outing will probably be at Paeroa nest week. Although he has not yet been returned a winner, it is likely that lie may prove a good winter proposition, for ho'hna speed and plenty of strength to carry him through thick going. After being on the easy list for about two months, Mustang is now ready to be reeommissioncxl. He is (somewhat on the light side, however, and may not come to hand quickly. It depends entirely upon the slate of the tracks whether Tin Lap will be raced at the Waikato and Ohinemuri meetings, for her owner rightly intends to keep the Lapidary marc olf any hard going. ]Io is looking in first class trim, but docs not hit out freely on firm ground. The same owner's King Ara is fining down gradually, but it may bo several •weeks yet before he is able to show any real galloping capability. Pelagia, who has been -working here since competing at the local mcetuig, is showing plenty of speed over short distances. On Tuesday morning, after running a very smart half mile, the Chief Ruler gelding was decidedly sore in front, tho trouble appearing to be in the shoulder.

With both Nalilin and Kinpr Brierly now out in tlio paddock, Mr. R. ]}. Ilinow haa no two-year-olds to carry hie colours during the remainder of the season. Both should be benefited by the respite from work, and, im thrce-yoar-olds next scauon, may make up for lost time. Val Watch was schooled a£a.in tliiw week, and is satisfying her trainer, A. K. Cox, with her etyle of negotiating tlio battens.
