FILM LIBEL CLAIM.
Youssoupoff Case Rouses Keen Interest. AUSTRALIAN PROCEEDINGS? (United P. A.—Elcctric Telegraph—Copyright) (Received 10.00 a.m.) LONDON, March 6. Tho Appeal Court has fixed Monday to hear the application of Sir William Jowitt, K.C., on behalf of Metro-Goldwyn-Maycr Film Corporation, for a stay of execution pending an appeal, in connection with the award of di 25,000 damages in Ihe libel action brought by Princess Irina Youssoupoff, arising out of the film, "Rasputin and the Empress." Sir Patrick Hastings, K.C., for the Princess, intimated that plaintiff would not seek enforcement of the judgment before Monday. Mr. Justice Avory, in refusing a stay of proceedings beyond this morning to permit of an appeal, ordered a sum of £1000, paid into court by Princess lrina, to be handed to her solicitors. Tlio judge entered judgment and granted an injunction restraining defendants from publishing the film as complained of in the action. Tho Princess' solicitors stated that the question of instituting legal proceedings in Australia had not yet been decided. The "Daily Mail" understands that owing to the injunction against showing the Rasputin film in the form of which Princess Youssoupoff complained, no further action will bo taken against 288 cinemas in England conccrned in the showing of the film. Tho result of the action has aroused the greatest interest in the film world owing to its effect on the filming of living persons, which is usually not attempted without the consent and cooperation of the individual concerned, i
