Mr. T. Allport, a well-known Picton business men, died to-day at the age of 70. Mr. A. Harris, M.P. for Waitemata, returned from Wellington by the Limited this morning. Mr. W. Mcßobie has been appointed deputy registrar of marriages, births aiul deaths at Hororata. Archdeacon G. Mac Murray and Mra. MacMurrav have returned from a three weeks' holiday at Onetangi. Mr. T. Bloodworth leaves for Wellington by the Limited to-night on business. He expects to return on Friday. Mr. William Watson, S.M., of Fending, leaves Wellington on March 15 for Sydney, en route to the Far East. Brevet-Major W. Bridgeford, of the Australian Staff Corps, arrived at Wellington by the Monowai on Monday. Dr. L. C. Benkert. of Ohio, who is on a tour of the Pacific, arrived in Wellington from Rarotonga by the Makura on Monday. Mr. G. J. Brougliton, of the Auckland goods staff of the N.Z.R., who has been transferred to Hawera, leaves by thia afternoon's express. Captain R. S. Lewis, marine superintendent at Auckland for the Shaw, Savill and Albion Co., leaves for Wellington by the Limited to-night. Lieutenant-Commander F. G. Ince, R.A.N, (retired), arrived by the Monowai at Wellington on Monday, on a holiday visit to New Zealand. Mr. J. A. Wicks, lately of the firm of Cuningliam and Taylor,, barristers and solicitors, Christchurch, has joined the firm of Oram, Gibbard and Tortt, Palnierston North. Mr. R. Girling Butcher, Inspector of Explosives, who has been attending the Associated Fire Brigades' Conference at Hamilton, joins the Limited for Wellington at Frankton to-night. The Rev. A. C. Swainson, vicar of Pahautanui for the past seven years, is transferring to Hunterville. His successor is the Rev. N. E. Winhall, who has been curate of St. Peter's Church, Wellington. Mr. H. C. Gregory, accountant of the Commercial Bank of Australia, at Wanganui, has been appointed manager of the bank's Newmarket branch, Auckland. He expects to take up his newduties in about a fortnight. J. P. Mctcalfe, a member of the touring Australian athletic team, now in Blenheim, who is a law student at Sydney University, has received cabled notification of his success in several subjects at the recent examinations. Dr. N. R. Mackay, of Tokomaru Bay, left Wellington by the Makura yesterday for Sydney, where he will join the Orford for England. He will be away for about six months, studying the latest developments in medicine and surgery. Judge H. F. Ayson, Resident Commissioner of the Cook Islands, arrived at Wellington by the Makura on Monday on a combined business and pleasure visit to New Zealand. Judge Ayson, who has been stationed at Rarotonga for 12 years, expects to be in the Dominion about six weeks. Mr. Maurice Cohen, who was chairman of the Wellington Harbour Board in 1925, returned for a brief visit to New Zealand by the Monowai on Monday. Mr. Cohen is recovering from the effects of a severe operation which it was necessary to have performed in Australia, where he spent more than six months in hospital. He will spend a few days in. Wellington and may go to Palmerston North for a few days, but he has no definite plans. He is accompanicd by Mrs. Cohen.
