WIDE RANGE OF SUBJECTS.

SNAPSHOT RESULTS ANNOUNCED. ANOTHER INTERESTING COMPETITION FOR NEXT WEEK,

Dear Boys and Girls, —

Evidently a large number of Budget readers are amateur photographers, for many snapshots were submitted for the holiday picture contest arranged a fortnight ago. There was a good variety of subjects, ranging from bush and beach scenes to pictures specially posed in the home garden. . In the terms of the competition announcement special attention was paid to the selection of subject matter and the general effectiveness of the pictures, so all had an equal chance of winning a prize whether or not they used an inexpensive box camera or an expensive one that enabled accurate exposures to be made. The snapshot entered by Marion Ford, a sixteen-year-old competitor from Ellerslie, was very good. It was taken from a valley and showed a glimpse of the ocean between two steep hills. In the foreground were the branches of a tree. Altogether it was a most effective picture. Quite out of the ordinary was the photograph supplied by Vincent Sokolich. This showed a boy being 'given a ride across a stream on the back of a fat black A scene won for lan Nicholas the third prize, whilst a most attractive picture of a bush stream with a background of thick native ferns earned for Lyndsay Page the fourth award. Several other good snaps were received and these have been rewarded with certificates of merit. It is often good fun to speculate as to how a story will end when it is only half read; in fact some people I know have stated most emphatically that they could end some tales more satisfactorily than their authors. The competition arranged for this week should have a special appeal for such people, for part of a Av'l story is given and Budgetites are asked to , supply a suitable conclusion. For full fL/ t particulars see the announcement which appears elsewhere on this page.
