MOUNT ALBERT COUNCIL.
The ordinary meeting of the Mount Albert Borough Council was held last evening, the Mayor, Mr. R. Ferner, presiding. Urban Farm Lands List. —Acting on legal advice, the conncil decided on 'the grounds that a prima facie case had not been made out to refuse two applications for preparation of a farm lands list under the Urban Farm Lands Act of 1932. The Mayor mentioned that such a list would be abrogated in any case after the forthcoming Government revaluation of the borough. Street Appeal.—The request of the Royal New Zealand Society for the Health of Women and Children (Plunket Society) to apply its city street appeal to the borough on March 23 was granted. . Rate Collections.—Although the total of rates collected for the borough up to February 15 (some £75,600), was below the amount for last year (£79,100), according to a repprt from the legal and finance committee. The Mayor pointed out that the percentage of rates collected was slightly higher than last year, showing a more satisfactory position than in 1933. Permits Issued.—The building inspector reported that 19 building permits had been issued for the month of February, of a total value of £6500. The sanitary inspector stated that 18 drainage and plumbing permits had been issued, the total value being £265. Taxi Stand.—ln view of a previous report regarding the danger of a taxi stand at the spot requested, the council refused permission to a taxicab company to erect a small telephone box in Mountain Road, and ruled that the stand should be in Wairere Avenue, being limited to four cabs, one from each company.
