MR. WILLIAM SHAW.
An old settler of the Pohuehue district, Rodney County, Mr. William Shaw, died at his late residence on March 3 after a brief illness. Born at Dumbarton, Scotland, on November 20, 1553 the late Mr. Shaw came to New Zealand with his parents in the ship "Flyin" Foam," in 1864. The Shaws settled"on their present homestead—then in tho midst of heavy bush, where the family have resided ever .since. Mr. Shaw married Miss Perry in 1874 and for many years bore all the hardships and dangers of the early days, turning the wilderness into a fruitful land. For many vears the late Mr. Shaw had been a member of the Masonic Order. He was W.M. of Lodge Kodney in 1914, and in addition had held the office of Almoner since 1920. He enjoyed good health until just recently. six daughters, Miss Shaw, Miss F. M. Shaw, of Warkworth, Miss J. C. Shaw and Miss S. C. Shaw, of Hamilton. Mrs. C O'Neill, of Hamilton, and Mrs. H. Brown, of Ma*terton; and three sons Messrs. A. M. Shaw and A. B. Shaw, ot Warkworth, and I. B. Shaw, of Mount Albert, Auckland. His wife, two sons and one daughter predeceased him.
