ANIMAL WELFARE.
ASSOCIATION'S REPORT.
A SUCCESSFUL YEAR. \ vcrv successful vear stands to the credit of the Animal Welfare .Association, Auckland. Inaugurated in October, 1932, for the primary purpose ot establishing a free clinic for the treatment of animals whose owners could not afford to give them veterinary attention, and. an accident ambulance for dogs injured in the streets, the association's success with those two services—the first of their kind to be established in Auckland—proved that tliev had been long needed. The annual report refers to the need of more effective animal welfare legislation, and states that efforts were still being made to prohibit the shooting of captive birds from traps. In connection with the free ambulance service, which at the present time was for stray animals only, it was hoped when funds permitted, to cover all cases. During the year the free clinic had dealt with over 240 cases. The ladies' committee had a membership of over 30 active members, and was the backbone of the association. The association was in a sound financial position, with a net credit of £131. Tlic first annual meeting would be held on Monday next.
