FAT STOCK MARKET,
WESTFIELD WEEKLY SALE,
There was keen competition at the Westfield fat stock sale to-day, with values firm, at late quotations. The JS T ew Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, reports;—At our weekly Westfield lat stock market held to-day beef was penned in larger numbers, 224 head being yarded. Competition was keen, with values firm at iate quotations. Extra choice ox sold to 24/ per lOOib; choice and prime, 21/ to 23/; secondary and plain, 10/ to 20/; prime young cow and heifer beef, 18/ to 23/; secondary, 14/ to 17/. Extra heavy prime steers ranged in price from £9 2/0 to £10; heavy, £8 to £9; lighter, £7 to £7 17/0; light, £0 to £0 17/0; small and unfinished, £4 5/ to £5 15/; extra heavy prime young cows and lieifers, £5 15/ to £(j 7/0; heavy, £4 17/0 to £3 12/6; lighter, £4 to £4 15/; light, £3 to £3 17/6; others, £1 10/ to £2 15/. Alfred Buckland and Sons, Limited, report:—At our weekly Westfield fat stock market held to-day beef pens contained 202 head (comprising 115 steers and 147 cows and heifers), compared with 242 head last week. With few exceptions the quality of the ox beef was first-class. Heavy cattle were a triile easier, although our quotations remained the same. Cows and heifers were unchanged. Extra choice ox sold to 24/ per 1001b; choice and prim:, 21/ to 23/; secondary and plain, 17/ to 20/; prime young cow and heifer beef, 18/ to 22/; secondary, 12/ to 17/; boners and canncrs, 7/ to 11/. _ Extra heavy prime steers ranged in price from £9 15/ to £10 12/6; heavy, £8 15/ to £9 12/6; lighter, £7 15/ to £8 12/6; light, £6 10/ to £7 12/0; small and unfinished, £4 10/ to £6 7/0; extra heavy prime young cows and heifers, £5 10/ to £6 5/; heavy, £4 10/ to £5 7/0; lighter, £3 0/ to £4 7/6; others, £1 10/ to £3 2/6. Messrs. Dalgety and Company, Ltd., report:—At our weekly- Westfield fat stock market held to-day we yarded 188 head of beef, comprising 51 steers and 137 cows and heifers, against 107 head last week. Quality was well up to standard, and offerings sold under good competition at -values on a par with late rates for all 'lasses, except heavy-weights, which ruled a shade lower. Extra choice ox sold to 24/ per 1001b; choice and prime, 21/ to 23/; just killable, 17/ to 20/; prime young cow and heifer beef, 20/ to 22/; just killable, 14/ to lf>/. Extra heavy prime steers ranged in price from £9 to £9 7/6; heavy, £8 to £8 17/6; lighter, £7 to £7 17/6; light, £6 to £6 17/6; small and unfinished, £5 to £5 17/0. Extra heavy prime young cows and heifers, £6 15/ to £8 7/6; heavy, £5 10/ to £6 12/6; lighter, £4 to £5 7/6; others, killable cows, £2 to £3 17/6.
