TE AROHA CLUB.

THE ANNUAL MEETING. PROGRAMME FOR TO-MORROW THE FIELDS REVIEWED. The Te Aroha Jockey Club's annual meeting will open to-morrow and conclude on Monday next. The fixture is one of the most popular on the country circuit and some excellent racing should eventuate, as the fields include some of the best handicap horses and hacks in commission at the present time. The Hurdle Event. The programme will open with the Ruakaka Hurdles, for which Cruachan is topweight with 10.9. He won this race last year under the same impost and should be in the money to-morrow. Emancipation ran second to him on that occasion, and as he is now an improved horse his prospects cannot be overlooked. Mia Stella won a double at the Auckland summer meeting, and if he runs up to that form lie will be dangerous. Wee Pat, also a winner at Ellerslie, is a very tit mare, who is sure to run a solid race. Callamart has no recent form to his credit, but Riotous has raced well recently, at the Egmont and Taranaki meetings. Brown Abbey won over hurdles at Matamata, and is a likely " improver. Ruby Dawn, The Hiker and Stanchion look the pick of the remainder. The chief fancies may be WEE PAT MIA STELLA CRUACHAN.

.Waitoa Handicap. Twenty-two horses-have been paid up for in the Waitoa Handicap and the issue is very open. King Mestor, who heads the list, is a smart hack, but several of those lower down may be too good for him. Bellkyrian is a speedy filly, and though, she failed at Takapuna may do better to-morrow. Tuaheahe and Wait and See have both won over the distance, and of the two Wait and See appeals most. Pelagia is also a possibility. Grand City and Bonny Gay are winners ihis season, and are sure to get support. Adeline won convincingly at Rotorua and should be in the money again, for she is an improving filly. Others likely to effect a surprise are Solomon, Royal Secret, Gay. Rose, Glenroniney, Lagoon and/'Huskie, but the bulk of the money.-may/come for WAIT AND SEE CfiEgfaKYRIAN. \ ADELINE . 'Juvenile Handicap. Seven two-year-olds figure in the Juvei nile Handicap, >and . $ay Blonde, who represents the best form, has to carry 10.0. it is a solid impost'vaiid she will/need to be at her best to win. Rollovant, who hails from Hawera, was'successful at the. Taranaki meeting, but is up against ,a bet-, ter class to-morrow. Royal Appellant has proved himself a consistent juvenile and should show up prominently. Namakia's form at Rotorua "was impressive, for eke won the Rennie Stakes easily, though the opposition was weak. She should be an improved filly- Gray Athlone appeals most of tha others. The final selections should be NAMAKIA > GAY BLONDE ROYAL APPELLANT, Herries Memorial Cup. A large field is likely to go to the post in the Herries Memorial Cup and the race sure to provide a keen contest, as some first-class handicap horses figure in the event. King's Knave (9.0) won the Auckland Racing Club Handicap last month, carrying 8.11, and that form entitles him to respect, for he' carries weight well. Master Brierly, next on the list, has done a solid preparation, and if he repeats his Takapuna form he should be in the picture at the finish. Grand Jury is the best form horse in the race, bis recent successes including, among others, the Stratford Cup, Wellington Cup and Wellington Racing Club Handicap. He will be racing the reverse way to-morrow, and if that does not affect him his prospects should be excellent. Master Noryal's spring form was good and consistent, and he is sure to be in demand. This also applies to Speedmint, who should run a solid race, now that the going is easier. Carfex, winner of the Taranaki Cup, is nicely placed, but the distance may : trouble him. Aga Khan and Baroscope will both have to improve on a recent form in order to win. King March ran several good races down south, and at his last start won the Midsummer Handicap, one mile and a quarter, at Riccarton. The distance will suit him, and he can be relied on to put up a bold showing. Beryl Latour is also likely to be troublesome, and Royal Artist, if back to his best, would also be hard to beat. Alloy, Knight of Australia, Mungatoon, "Vertigern and Gibraltar also sapeal. Betting is sure to-be brisk, with solid support coming for KING MARCH' " GRAND JURY - MASTER BRIERLY, > The Shaftesbury. Some speedy hacks are" engaged' in" the Shaftesbury Handicap, among them being lccent winners, and a goo'd race _ should result. Lucidus has been galloping in. good ■style at Te Awamutu and should show up in this event, for his pace is undoubted. Plieon is also speedy, being successful at Stratford last month and again at Egmont a few weeks ago. Imamint, , winner at "Takapuna, can run out a solid six furlonars, while Diagano has several victories to his credit recently. He is sure to_. go well. Oriel won twice at Egmont and is ; reputed to be a first-class hack. Tin. Lap, Expectancy and Killadar read best of the others. The public may prefer ■>.; , ,

LUCIDUS DIAGANO : ORIEL. The Sprint Event. There are some brilliant gallopers engaged ill the Waihou Handicap, the chief sprint event of the day; and it will not be an easy race to win. Cadland has not won a race for some time and may find some of the lightweights too good.for him. Jonathan's past form has been good, and if at his best to-morrow he should be in the money. Gay Sheila displayed excellent form during the spring and is a brilliant filly, though she may be short of a race. Prolyxo and British Columbia do not appeal as strongly as Star Artist aad Boughal. The lastnamed pair have proved their ability over the distance, and their chances look excellent. Tradesman, L'Allegro and Exaggeration will also have to be considered. The favourites should include STAR ARTIST BOUGHAL JOXATHAX. • Champion Hack Event. The Champion Hack Handicap field includes some of the best hacks in commission at the present time and the public will find the task of selecting the winner most difficult. If reserved for this race Beryl Latour's chance cannot be overlooked, though the weight may stop her, and Last Lap reads better. Caliente won in great style at Matamata over this distance, and wfiatbver beats her should win. At his best fiuri would also be dangerous, but he has failed on several occasions recently. D'Artagnan .finished . on solidly "when lie ran sccond Caliente at jVlatajnata and should show up again. -Don £ Lap and Gay Broney -do Jiot appeal* but

i run solid races. Taitoru, Golden Sceptre, run solid races. Lalla Quex, Golden Sceptre, Kurapae and Saltspray also appeal. Recent form favours CALIENTE LAST LAP COURTHAVEN. The Hot Springs. As the result of his three recent victories, Chief Cook is likely to be best backed in the Hot Springs Handicap, and it is hard to select one to beat him. Carfex and Alloy have earlier engagements, but if started in this event will have plenty of admirers. King's Archer will also be in demand, and if at his best is sure to be in the picture. Whakapara, Limex, King Mestor, Arvada ami Jmpasto have fair prospects, but-'the final selections are likely to be CHIEF COOK KING'S ARCHER ALLOY. A special train will leave Auckland at 6.2*2 a.m. and Newmarket at 0.29 a.m., returning after the last race. The acceptances are:— 11.50—RUAKAKA HURDLES of £155. About one mile and a half.
