ASSAULT ON SHIP.
TWO FIREMEN FINED. Arrested last night, each charged with assaulting tlie second officer, Kenneth McFarlane, two firemen from the British ship Nogoya, George Lengley, aged 33, and Albert Robinson, 30, appeared in the Police Court this morning. Lengley was further charged with doing mischief by wilfully damaging a cabin door to the extent of £1. Evidence was given that the second officer spoke to Lengley because he should have been on watch, and that Lenjrlev struck McFarlane, who took shelter" in a cabin. Lengley smashed the door of the cabin. Botli men alleged that they had been ■persecuted by the complainant during the voyage and that McFarlane had used lan offensive expression to Lengley. Lengley said he merely held the complainant's hands when'he brandished a spanner. The magistrate fined Lengley £5 on tho assault charge, and Robinson, whom he held was also a party to the assault, £2. Lengley was convicted and ordered to make good the damage done.
