TE AROHA MEETING.

THE IjOCAIJ HORSES. CHANCES OF KING'S ARCHER. On Tuesday morning Beryl Latour and Mungatoon were associated over a sevenfurlong gallop run in 1.29, the latter showing to most advantage, his spin over six furlongs with King Mestor on Saturday having benefited him considerably. G. Paul arrived on Saturday with Tiisbna, Kanapa and Kurapae. This trio are ill excellent fettle, the Cup candidate being all the better for the Rotorua experience. The acceptances from Te Awamutu of Solarium and Teels were received here too late, but it is expected that both will race on the second day. The rising two-year-old by Spear Dance, owned by a Woodville sportsman, met with injuries this week through coming in contact with a wire fence. It .is expected that he will soon recover. Record Fight is deemed to have recovered from the effects of the cold that necessitated him joining the easy list after the Matamata meeting. He is expected to be able to compete in the five and a half furlongs event at the Ohinemuri meeting next month. • King's Archer is not being put through a hard preparation by C. E. Mallowes, but as he races well when fresh may run a good race on Saturday in tlie Hot Springs Handicap, as over a mile he gallops very solidly. Mr. J. Whitten's Tin Lap is now moving more freely on the tracks, consequent upon the going bp'np on the damp side. When in right trim very consistent, and should therefore be prominent in her next engagements. • . • .. After his brief holiday King Brierly is not ready to compete on the first day of the local meeting. He is looking well, and thickened out perceptibly of late. Although occasionally she performs erratically Val Watch has been settling down to her jumping tasks, and is quite likely to set the pace in the Ruakaka Hurdles at the minimum weight. She is in tip top condition, and should not be troubled .by the distance. Unoco will be prepared to run out the distance better than was evident at Matamata, as he has done more, jumping work since. Recent racing has brightened up Don't Lap considerably, but it is questionable whether he will be dangerous in the Champion Cup as he is somewhat slow in gaining a position in the early stages.

This filly is a full-sister to Red Rufus and is erpeeted to develop into a useful sort. JAYSON RESUMES WORK. Jayson, who has been on 'the easy list since he was injured while racing in Taranaki, is back among the active brigade at Woodville. He is big, but looks to be very well. He should be in good order l'or winter racing. IN STEADY WORK. Rebel Star, owned by the trotting enthusiast J. S. Shaw, has been in steady work for the' last few weeks at Riccarton and is due to make his reappearance at Motukarara on March 3. It was on this course that Rebel Star registered his first and only win to date, when he scored in the Okain's Trial Stakes in October last. ADDITION TO STABLE. A newcomer.in Fred Davis' string is a three-year-old gelding by Greyspear from Regal Star, a Martian mare, and the youngster had his first gallop at Wood%'ille a few days ago. when he slipped over three furlongs ,in -36 .3-s*. He hopped away smartly and finished very resolutely (says a southern writer). He is a fine-looking colt and a real Martian in looks. He is owned. by. Mr. W, H. Gaisford, who bred him it Oringi. la
