RAIN STOPS PLAY. SENIOR MATCHES DRAWN. GEDYE GETS HIGHEST SCORE. A change in the weather on Saturday about 5 p.m. spoilt another series of matches in the City and Suburban Association's senior championship at the Domain, and the "crowd was disappointed when at 5.30 p.m. play had to be abandoned owing to heavy vain, and the games were declared drawn just at a time when some surprise results seemed imminent on a one-day play basis. Particularly was this the case on No. 1 wicket, where Green Lane stood up well to the attack of Ponsonby, and were 166 runs up for seven wickets. Gedye compiled 50, which was the highest score of the day. On the central pitch Mount Roskill occupied 130 minutes to make 114 runs against Mount Albert Grammar Old Boys, who had replied with 80 runs for two wickets. R.V. had registered only 90 runs for six wickets in 140 minutes against Harbour Board, but an hour's good play by Cloke and Mills added another 50 runs.
Green Lane had declared just prior to 5.30 p.m., and stumps were promptly drawn, but ten minutes elapsed before similar action was taken on Nog. 2 and 3 wickets. The championship positions are:—R.Y. 26, Ponsonby 22. Green Lane 21. Harbour Board 16. Mount Albert 12, Mount Roskill 10. Table of positions :— Ch. P. W. L. D.
