"ROYALS'" LONG RACE. WON BY WAITANGL MARORO WINS DRYSDALE CUP. The Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron i held its annual race to Te Kouma for the T. M. Alexander Memorial Cup on Saturday in a fresh breeze from the north, the commodore's big yacht, Waitangi, winning in record time of 4h 14m 3Ss, with Kotuku second and Ladye Wilma third. The handicaps were : Nga Toa, scr; Thelmn, sm; Rawene, 15m; Prize, 20m; Victory, Moana, 21m; Waione, 27m; Ida, 32m; Ladye Wilma, Argo, 37m; Waitangi, Kotiri. 42m ; Windward, 48m ; Mahaki, 70m ; Kotuku. .Timet, OOm. Thelma, Victory, .lanet and Kotuku did not start. Ida was first away, followed by Prize, Windward, Rawene, Ladye Wilma, Moana. Kotiri, Mahaki, Waione, Argo, Nga Toa, and Waitangi. The race started at 2 p.m. off the King's wharf, the course being direct to the entrance to Te Kouma, Coromandel, a distance of 34 mile?. The finishing times were taken by .Mr. C. H. Palmer from the motor yacht Adelaide. Soon after the start Victory was in the weather berth with Prize, Rawene, Waione, Nga Toa and Waitangi in this order. The breeze just suited Waitangi, sailed by Mr. J. W. Frater, and at Brown's Island she took the lead, which she held to the finish, Nga Toa being second. Prize and Rawene next. The finish was timed : Waitangi, Gh 14in 4Ss; Xga Toa, Oh 19m 4s; Prize, Gh 22m 245; Rawene, Gh 25m 555; Victory, Gh ,28m 18s; Moana, Gh 31m lGs; Ladye Wilma, Gh 3Gm 19s; Waione, Gh 37m 14s; Kotirij Gh 42m 2Ss; Ida, Gh 43m; Windward, 7h 2m; Mahaki. 7li l.mi 455; Kotuku, 7h 27m 455; Argo, 7h 33m 235. Result : Waitangi, 1 ; Kotuku, 2; Ladye Wilma, 3.
Waitangi won without her time allowance, and established a record time for this race. M Class.—Matarere, Mawhiti, Maroro, Manu and Maneue started in this order for the Drysdalc Cup. On the beat to the Bastion, Matarere retained her lead, but later she capsized. This gave the lead to Manene, whose skipper reported having fouled a mark, and she was disqualified. The finish was : Manene, 4h 3Sm ; Maroro, 4h 40m ss; Mawhiti, 4h 40m 40s; Manu, 4h 42m 40s. Result: Maroro, 1; Mawhiti, 2; Manu, 3. The boats wore sailed by crews under 21 years of age.
