If you met Mademoiselle Violctte D'Argcns at a tea party you might guess her profession a:; a violinist from her slim-tapered lingers or us a French modiste from the smartness of her clothes; but as a lion-tamer, never. "Whatever made you take up liontaming as a career'! , " a "Xews-C'hroiiiele" reporter asked her. "As a child I was always wanting father to take me to zoos and menageries," she replied. "My father did not approve when , * I begged to be a lion-tamer; he wanted me to marry. "He relented, and two years ago 1 was apprenticed to a lion-tamer. Then one day, about a mouth after I started, I found that I was in the cage alone." "Are you afraid of anything?" I queried. "Yes," she admitted, "only one thing: I am terrified of toads, and when I see one I run for. my life!"
