WILDE BEATS TURNBULL. ENGLISHMEN WIN DOUBLES. ADELAIDE, February 2. In the South" Australian lawn tennis championships to-day the matches resulted: — • Singles.—Wilde beat Turnbull, 6—3, 6—l; Ilopman beat Hushes, 11 —9, 6 —2; Quist beat Lee, 9 —7, 6—2. Doubles.—Perry and Hughes beat Crawford and Hopman, 16 —14, 3—6, 4 —6, 7—5, - Wilde gave his best display in Australia and routed Turnbull in 40 minutes. The Hopman-Hughes match was spectacular. Hopman seldom erred and lie dominated the play toward the end. Quist and Lee were responsible for some brilliant exchanges. In the doubles Hopman's play was outstanding. It was the most thrilling doubles of the present series. DAVIS CUP ABSENTEES. LONDON, February 2.
