DEPUTY-SHERIFF ASSAULTED

(Received 12 noon.) TAMPA (Florida), January 30. Mob violence flamed here early today as a crowd of men attacked the deputyslieriff while he was conducting Robert Johnson, a negro held for allegod criminal assault on a white woman. The oflicer was overpowered and held captive while the negro was taken to a secluded spot nnd shot clown.

Later the oflicer was released, after being kicked and beaten.
