ATHLETICS.
PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS. SATURDAY'S MEETING AT DOMAIN. The provincial athletic championships will be held at the Domain on Saturday next. Several of the champions will not be defending their titles. N. F. Cooper, the mile and three milss champion, is suffering from a serious ankle injury; P. T. Bowie, the 120 yards hurdle champion, is now in Wellington; D. Kerr-Taylor, 440 yards hurdle champion, is recovering from a serious accident; T. H. Gilmour, who won the discus throw, is now domiciled in Otago; the javelin champion, G. J. Sceats, haa been transferred South, and Mrs. Harris, the 100 yards ladies' champion, is suffering from an injury which has necessitated her retirement.
Good entries have been received from country athletes, as Whangarei, Rotorua, Hamilton and Cambridge are sending representatives.
PAPATOETOE MEETING,
J. VALDER IN SPLENDID FORM. A large number of residents gathered to watch the meeting of the Papatoetoe Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club at the Stadium last evening. J. Valder, who will represent the club at the provincial championships on Saturday, scored a good win in the 880 yards handicap. Ho came through the field in the bell lap with a good burst to roach the tape with a big margin from Haddock, 48yds, and Rae, 65yds. In the 880 yards B grade C. Naden set a hot pace over three laps, but dropped back at the bell, nnd in the sprint for places O. Wood, five yards, just beat Pulman, off 32 yards.
