TEN-YEAR PACT.
HITLER COMMENDED
PEACE WITH POLAND.
"One of Most Important Events
Since the War."
SCEPTICISM FOR LEAGUE,
fCntted P.A.—Electric Telegraph—Copyright)
(Received 1 p.m.) LONDON, January 29. The Geneva correspondent of the "Daily Mail" says that the 10-year pact of non-aggression between Germany and Poland is regarded in League circles as one of the most important events since the war. Much credit is given Herr Hitler for removing one of the major obstacles to an understanding of armaments and a general conciliation.
The "Manchester Guardian" Geneva correspondent says that official Polish explanations suggest that the pact was the culmination of dissatisfaction with M. Paul-Boncour's policy and the French Government's w-eakness, especially acceptance of the Four-Power pact.
It is felt in Poland that Fiance has continually ignored Polish wishes. Poland also regards the League sceptically owing to capitulation to Japan. The Toles contend that the League's failure was due to the weakness of the Western Powers, causing the belief that it could not offer support in cases of emergency, which was again obvious in the case of Austria. Accordingly, the Poles must protect themselves.
