A SUCCESSFUL INNOVATION".

Outstanding success attended the efforts of the country cricket sub-committee of the Auckland Association on its innovation of sending city clubs to play throughout the province on Anniversary Day, instead of matches in the Auckland championship. Besides some capital cricket, the contests proved most enjoyable from the social aspect as well, and proved a fitting windup to thefflrnajor association's activities to foster the Same in the province, following the successful Town v. Country match on December 15 and 16, and the big tournament at Christmas week for the Hellaby Shield. , x , Mr. Laurie Schnauer and those associated with him are to be heartily congratulated on their work in carrying out this comprehensive programme of country visits, which are certain to finally link up the clubs and minor associations throughout the province with city cricket. The various matches resulted: —

PARNELE V. NORTH AUCKLAND. A match between Parnell (Auckland) and a North Auckland team was played at Whangaroi. The game was drawn, details being as follow :—North Auckland, 2.S runs for six wickets, declared (Eawrie 100 not out, G. L. Weir 84, Hewin 28, Wilson 23) Goodsir took three wickets for 07 runs. Parnell 200 runs for eight wickets (at Wallace 84, Whitelaw 52, G. Wallace 41, Vivian 15).

NORTH SHORE V. PUKEKOHE. An ensy victory was gained by North Shore over rukekohc in a match played at Pukekohe. Scores :—Pukekohe : First Innings, 78 (Gnsparich 25 not out, C. Eawrie 19. Goldsworthy 10. Stoupe 11). Saunders took five wickets for 30 runs, Blanchfield one for 5, McDivitt one for 14. Stevenson one for 8. Nicholas one for 12. Second innings, 101 (Kose 2C, Ileise 21, C. Eawrie 12). Saunders took seven wickets for 41, McDivitt one for 11, Blanchfield one for 13. North Shore: First innings. 171 for eight wickets (Frater 48. Curtayne 48, Blanchfield 17 not out, Sale 15). Bowling: Gasparich two for 41, Eawrie one for 22, Plevdell two for 21, Hewitt two for 21. EDEN V. HAMILTON. The match between the Eden Club first eleven and a Hamilton representative team at Seddon Park resulted in a win for Hamilton by two wickets. The game had a very exciting finish, the wiliners gaining the few runs needed for victory just before time. A heavy drizzle delayed the start until 11 o'clock, and the weather caused several adjournments. Eden's innings yielded 121, the only batsmen to reach double figures being Gillespie (34), Postles (38), and ,T. Ryan (27), while the remainder made only 21 between them. Lissette, who took four wickets for 21, was the most successful Hamilton bowler. R. Going took three for 30. Hamilton scored 126 for the loss of eight wickets. When the eighth wicket fell Hamilton seemed to have a poor chance, but R. Seccombe and M.. Clarke scored the required runs with a fine display of batting. The highest scorers were Seccombe (39), Clarke (21), A. Eissette (19), R. Somers (15). Postles bowled well for Eden in taking four wickets. GRAFTON V. THAMES. j

Grafton: First innings, 285 (Burke 56, Hockin 50. Cowie 49, J. T. Bush 39, Angus 215). Bowling: Gibson took throe wickets I for 45 runs, Baker three for 70, Billing two for 29, Dnre one for 10. Thames: First innings, 146 for five wickets (Cottrnll 79 not out, Hayward 27, \V. Baker 35). Bowling: Ratcllffe took two wickets for 34 runs. The match was drawn owing to rain interrupting play. POINT CHEVALIER V. PAEROA. Point Chevalier: First innings, 193 (Flower 34, Skinner 31, Fox 22, Bridges 19). Bowling: Howard three for 64, Winter three for 71. Paeroa: First innings, 159 (Howard 38, Boggs 26, Teild 22, EUerington IS). Bowling: Skinner three for 55, Williamson three for 28, Bowater two for 11. Point Chevalier won on the first innings.

E.P.S. V. BEALE'S XI. An eleven chosen by Mr. E. C. Beale played a match against the English Public Schools' Cricket Club at Remuera yesterday, the former winning by an innings and 141 runs. Scores :— English Schools. —First innings, 65 (Bateson 14, Fanning 14, Hately 10). Bowling: Hook took two wickets, Mutton two, Lockwood two, Cooper three, Kent one. Second innings, 90 (Hately 29, Fanning 22). Bowling: Beechey took two wickets, Jenyns four, Whaley two, Wilson one. Mr. E. C. Beale's Eleven.—First innings, 296 (Kent 57 retired, Hook 50 retired, Mut-, ton 47, Beechey 37, Cooper 32, Jenyns 20, Webster 19, Wilson 13).
