A Small Field.

Favourite Just Beats Royal Appellant in Opening Event. Lady Burleigh was withdrawn from i the Hobson Handicap, and Gay Blonde got most support, while Royal Appellant was also in demand. When the field had settled down, Royal Appellant was in front, leading along the back from Gay Athlone, Sirona and Gay Blonde, and they raced in that order to the home turn. Gay Blonde followed Royal Appellant into the Straight, and in a good finish beat him by a neck, with Sirona six lengths away. Gay Athlone was last. Double Figure Dividend. When the field paraded for the Suburban Handicap, Recreatu, Marechal, Bellkyrian and Solomon were missing, and the chief fancies were Star Artist, Boughal and Hampton Park. A surprise was in store, however; for British Columbia, the outsider of the field, led all the way, and paid double figures. When they were let go, British Columbia began best from Boughal, Bambury and Sinking Fund (who were all bunched), then came Star Artist, Lady's Boy and Hampton Park. Boughal and British Columbia were togeuier in the lead across the top, the order of the others being the same, with Star Artist on the rails. British Columbia was first into the straight, with Boughal next, and Star Artist, on the outside, then came Sinking Fund, Bambury and Hampton Park. Star Artist challenged in the run to the post, but failed to reach British Columbia by half'a length, with Boughal a length away. Sinking Fund, Hampton Park, Bambury and Lady's Boy were next.

An Easy Win. Brown Lap, Morchu, Echo Son?, Spree and Teddy's Boy were not saddled up for the iloana" Handicap, and wheal betting ceased Killadar, Diversion and Arawa Rose were best backed. Arawa Rose, Diversion, Glittering and Killadar began quickest, the last-named leading along the back from Glittering, Barograph, Arawa Rose, Solo Song, Diversion, Model Girl and Char Song, who Imd given a lot of trouble at the start. Killadar was showing the way to Barograph across the top, with Glittering and Arawa Rose next, the order of the others being unchanged. Killadar was still in front entering the straight, with Barograph, Arawa Rose and Glittering handy; then came Solo Song and Diversion. Killadar, holding his own in the run to the post, won easily by four lengths from Barograph, with Arawa Rose the same distance away. Solo Song was fourth; then came Glittering, Diversion, Char Song and Model Girl.

Only Five Starters. There were only five starters in the Hauraki Plate, in which Ruri, Limbohm and Psychologist got most support, the last-named winning by a head. Passing the stand Gay Broney had charge from Psychologist, Limbohm, Cherry King and Ruri. The last-named then ran through fast and was on terms with Psychologist along the back, followed by Gay Broney and Limbohm together, with Cherry King last. The order was the same across the top, and Ruri and Psychologist led into the straight from Limbohm, with Gay Broney and Cherry King next. Limbohm and Gay Broney finished fast over the last stages, but Psychologist got the verdict by a head from Limbohm, with Gay Broney v Similar distance away. Ruri was fourth, mid Cherry King next.
