AUSTRALIAN TITLES. CRACK DOUBLE DEFEATED. SYDNEY, January 25. The Australian tennis championships were continued to-day in fierce heat. Results are: — Men's Doubles—Semi-finals: Perry and Hughes beat McGrath and Moon, 6—o, 6 3, I—6, 7—5; Quist and Turnbull beat Crawford and Hopman, 7—5, 4—6, 3—6, Doubles.—Semi-finals: Mesdames W.estacott and Molesworth beat Misses Chitty and Lewis, 6 —4, 6 —3; Misses Hartigan and Yalkenburg beat Misses Bickerton and Hall, 6 —3, 6—l. . . Combined Doubles.—Semi-finals: Duulop and Mrs. Westacott beat Hopman anil Miss Hall, 6—l. 6-3; Moon and Miss Hartigan beat Willard and Miss Hattersley, 13 g 6. Perry dominated the play in his doubles match. Some of his services and drives in the first two sets were untouchable. His net play also was brilliant. In fact, his all-round play was far superior to anything he has shown in Sydney preVl sn Sl the third set the Australians, who, up to that point had been missing badly, played well. There was a great stiugpjie m the last set, the Englishmen having five set points before winning. Quist and Turnbull unexpectedly beat Crawford and Hopman. The match was evenly contested throughout, though Crawford was not in his best form. Ihe winners teamed perfectly. Quist was very deadly overhead. , , , . . Miss Hartigan's strong forehand drive was the match winniug factor in her doubles with Miss Valkenburg. Miss Bickerton played best for the losers.
