MUTTON PRICES RISE. SMITHFIELD SUPPLIES SHORT. The New Zealand Meat Producers' Board has received the following cable frcm its London office, dated .January 12, advising that the following are the approximate average prices realised for the week, based on actual transactions of wholesale quantities of the descriptions of meat mentioned, and are for representative parcels of the goods offering during the week, being for business done on the basis of delivered to Sniithfield market, and/or ex Loudon stores:—
New Zealand Sheep.—Canterbury and North Island selected crossbred wethers and maiden ewes, 481b to 561b, 5%d per lb; 571b to 641b. sVkl; 651b to 721b. 4%d; North Island, 481b to 5(51b, 5%d; 571b to 641b. 5(1: 65!b to 721b, 4%d; ewes, 481b and under, 4%d; 481b to 641b, 3'/id; 651b to 721b, 3%d.

Baconers: 1201b to 1601b, 5%d; In the lamb market heavier arrivals have slightlv eased prices, but the tone of tlie market is good and consumption is excellent for the time of year. Mutton: Spot, stocks are very short and prices are almost nominal. Beef: Meeting with slightlv better demand, but large stocks checking any advance in prices. -New Zealand pigs: Porker, heavier arrivals have eased prices slightly, but the demand is good; baconers, with better prices for bacon, the demand is improving. THE BANK'S RETORT. The Bank of New Zealand has received the following advice from its London office as at the close of business last week:— Wethers and ewes: The mark-ct is short ot supplies, and prices are nominal. LambsThere is a fair demand. Trade, general *-, is fair.
