RACING AT THAMES.

THE FINAL DAY. ALLOY WINS TWO EVENTS. SPRINT TO BRITISH COLUMBIA. The Thames Jockey Club's annual meeting concluded on Saturday, and some excellent racing was witnessed, several of the contests resulting in very close finishes. There was a large attendance, and the weather was fine until after the sixth race, when heavy rain set in, though it eased towards the finish. A feature of the racing was the excellent form shown by Alloy, who won the chief event, the Thames Plate, and later in the day _ annexed the Farewell Handicap. British Columbia, in the same stable, also accounted for the open sprint event, the President's Handicap. Last Lap scored in the County High-weight, thus recording his second success at the meeting. Prince Acre won the opening event, the Kopu Handicap, and Day Wind beat King Brierly in the Hikutaia Stakes. The Turua Handicap went to Chief Clerk, and Wee Musk led all the way in the Ngatea Handicap. During the day the sum of £8187 was put through the totalisator, against £6551 last year, an Increase of £1336. The total turnover for the meeting was £16,680, compared with £13,557 for the corresponding meeting last year, an increase of £3123. Favourite Beaten In Plate. Mungatoon was sent out favourite for the Thames Plate, in which Whakapara and Prolyxo also got solid support, but Alloy, who won the same event last year, got the verdict by a narrow margin. Passing the stand the first time Whakapara had charge from Plying Prince, Alloy, Mungatoon and Prolyxo, with Trishna last, and the order was the same along the back and into the straight. Mungatoon and Alloy wore down the leaders in the run home, and in a tight finish Alloy stayed on best to win by a neck from Mungatoon, with Whakapara half a length away. Trishna, Prolyxo and Plying Prince were next. Alloy_ ran one of his best races, and won decisively at the finish. Mungatoon also put up a solid performance. Whakapara had every chance, but was not good enough. Trishna was running on at the finish, but Prolyxo and Plying Prince did not impress. A Close Finish. Eight candidates faced the starter in the Turua Handicap, _ the withdrawals totalling eleven, and King Mestor, a dual winner on the first day, was a staunch favourite from Chief Clerk and Roman Mascot. The first to break the line were Chief Clerk, Roxy, Bonny Gay and Glenromney, the lastnamed running to the front along the back, from Chief _ Clerk, Roman Mascot and Bonny Gay, with the favourite and Kanapa several lengths away. Glenromney was still in front at the home turn, the order of the others being the same, but he weakened in the run to the judge, and in a close finish Chief Clerk prevailed by half a head from Kariapa, who finished fast, and beat Bonny Gay by a neck for second money. Koxy, Roman Mascot and King Mestor, were next. Chief Clerk ran on solidly under pressure, and will win more races. Kanapa's finishing effort was impressive, and he is worth keeping in mind for the country meetings. Glenromney displayed brilliant speed, but the distance was a bit too far for him. The Sprint Event. Limex and Karangapai got most support in the President's Handicap, the open 6print race, which resulted in a win for British Columbia, who was third favourite on the win machine. When the field had settled down Werata had charge from Karangapai and British Columbia, but the lastnamed pair headed him along the back, and the order into the straight was Karangapai, British Columbia, Mareehal, Limex and Werata, with Hampton I'ark last. Karangapai stopped badly over the last furlong, and British Columbia held on to win by half a length from Marechal, with Limex a length away. The winner, who stayed on solidly, looked improved after bis race on the first day. Marechal finished ; very gamely, and is light back to his best again. Karangapai iiad very chance, but failed badly, being one of the last to finish. Last Lap Again. When the final figures were adjusted in the County High-weight Last Lap was a pronounced favourite, with Cordon and Cruachan next best backed. Clan Ronald began best, leading past the_ stand from Last Lap, Cordon and Don't Lap, and along the back the firstnamed was followed by Master Musk, with Don't Lap, Last Lap and Cruachan on terms next. Don't Lap ran tiirougli on the inside crossing the top, and led into the straight from Clan Ronald, Loombination, Cruachan, Last Lap and Master Musk, with Cordon following. In a close finish Last Lap got up to beat Don't Lap by a neck, with Cruachan half a length further Loombination was fourth, with Cordon, Clan Ronald and Master Musk next. Last Lap stayed on in good style to record his second win at the meeting. Don't Lap ran a sound race, and should not be long off the winning list. Val Watch's Misbehaviour. Four horses were saddled up for the Xgatea Handicap, but owing to Val Watch being unmanageable at the barrier she was taken back to the birdcage, and her supporters did not get a run for their money. Heavy rain was falling when the horses lined up, and when they were let go Royal Gallant slipped, and was almost down, Wee Musk jumping out first from Roxy, the pair getting away some lengths ahead of Royal Gallant. The lastnamed closed on Wee Musk two furlongs from home, but the latter had a bit in hand, and beat him by three lengths, with Koxy three lengths and a half away. Alloy Completes Double. The meeting concluded with the P are " tyell Handicap, in which Chief Cook, King's Archer and Alloy, who earned a 31b penalty, and lib overweight were best backed. King's Archer, Prolyxo and Chiei C ook were first out, and along the back King's Archcr was just leading Chief Cook, with Jalldy Karo, Prolyxo, Limex and Alloy following in that_ order. Jalldy Karo was just behind King s Archer at l/ic home turn, with Chief Cook and I'lolyxo close up, and Alloy and Limex making up ground on the outside. A good fininh saw Alloy beat Limex by half a length, with Jalldy Karo halt a head awry; Chief Cook. Prolyxo and Kings Archer were next. Alloy, who covered iv.ore ground than any of the otner horsea, put up a cterling effort. Limex also iaii another solid race. Chief Cook stopped o-.-er the final stages after having every chance. The Te Aroha-trained mare "Val Watch was very fractious before the start of the County High-weight at Thames on Saturday, and eventually proving unmanageable was brought back to the birdcage, taking no part in the race. In view of her behaviour, the chief stipendiary steward, Mr. C. Gomer, has decided to recommend her for the barrier schooling list.
