SHEFFIELD SHIELD.
HORNIBROOK TRIES COME-BACK.
BRISBANE, January 12. A Sheffield Shield cricket match between Queensland and South Australia was begun to-day in Brisbane. The South Australians batted first and scored 184 "runs (Richardson 67, Ryan 20). Oxenham took six wickets for 48 and Yeates three for 47. Queensland had lost one wicket far &'7 when play ceased for the day (Cook not out 40, Allen 33, Andrews not out 14). The chief interest in this match centrcs round the inclusion of Hornibrook, a left-hand bowler (successful when in England with the previous team), whom j the Australian selectors are anxious to watch in view of the forthcoming English : tour. Hornibrook has been out of firstclass cricket for three seasons. His . bowling to-day by comparison with Oxen- ; ham's was not impressive (his average ! was none for 50), and Oxenham further j enhanced his chances of inclusion-*.n then lesfc team.
