FINE DAIRY FARM.
BUTTERFAT RETURNS. LEADING HERD IN WALTON. Just what can be done by systematic herd-testing and farming is exemplified in the returns from Mr. L. Whistler's farm of 98 acres at Walton. Last season was his fourth on a farm. In the 1930-31 season the average return per cow was 2491b of butterfat, and three seasons later, last season, the return was 344.311b of butterfat, which was the highest in the Walton herd-testing group. Such a return shows what can be done in improving the herd, but as the production per acre has also reached 2461b, it shows that at "Teddington" the main factor in farm economy is watching. The full returns from Mr. Whistler's property are as follow:— Area, 93 acres (including one acre garden and orchard): stock, 70 cows, two bulls. 18 heifers, 25 weaner ciilvee, four horses, 159 pigs (sold and all bred on the farm). Butterfat (herd-testing figures): 24,1011b bt%erfat, average per cow 344.31b, average per acre 2461b.
