DOUGHNUTS AND CARP.
GERMANS AND THE NEW YEAR. BERLIN, January 4. Germans in traditional fashion celebrated the New Year at midnight with feasts of carp, doughnuts and punch. Berlin alone consumed 10,000,000 doughnuts and 2,800,000 carp. The "turning a new leaf spirit" is notably evident. The consolidation of the Nazi State is regarded as the outstanding New Year resolution. General Rochm congratulates the Brown Army on a meritorious year. Hitler's new paper, the "Volkischer. Beobachter," gigantically displays a front-page message from Hitler, urging loyalty and discipline on his followers. The Prussian Premier, General Goering, extols Hitler and paints the fulfilment of Germany's dream in glowing colours.
