RARE TALENTS.

DEATH OF MRS. Si H. STRONGE. NEW PLYMOUTH, this day. A woman of rare talents and one who somo years ago was a well-known exhibitor at art exhibitions, Mrs. S. H. Stronge, died at the New Plymouth Hospital on Saturday, at the age of 54. She possessed marked literary ability, and' was a frequent contributor to art mid short story magazines. Mrs. Stronge was the eldest daughter of Mr. J. Feaver, of Opunake. She was born at St. Lecmards-on-Sea, England, and came to Xew Zealand in . 1895, settling at Opunake. After her marriage she lived at Opunake until 1910, when she moved to New Plymouth, returning to Opunake in 1925. As a girl in England, Mrs. Stronge studied art, and was. a frequent exhibitor at fine art displays in metropolitan centres, particularly in Wellington. She painted ehie/ty in oils, though she sometimes exhibited watercolours, black and white subjects and chalk work. Her subjects for the most part were landscape and classical. Periodicals both in Australia and England regularly featured short stories by Mrs. Stronge, who, particularly in her later life, devoted much of her attention to literature. Mrs. Stronge was deeply interested in Maori lore mythology, and was a member of the Polynesian Society. She leaves two sons, Messrs. John and Charles Stronge, of Opunake. Mr. John Strongo married Miss Mary Lee, a daughter of Mr. G. A. Lee, an Auckland engineer.
