SYDNEY, this day.

Sir Charles Kingsford Smith appeared in a new role to-day. Using an Aus-tralian-made sports car he began a nonstop trip to. Melbourne from Sydney at dawn with two companions. Sir Charles' comoanions were Messrs. J. Marks, designer of the car, and S. E. Nielson, secretary of the New Zealand Aero Club. Sir Charles and his party arrived at 11.20 p.m. at night. The actual running time was 15§ hours. At one stage, the car reached 75 miles an hour. "Smithy" intends to fly back to Sydney to-day in his. Percival Gull aeroplane in order to make final preparations for his forthcoming flight to New Zealand.
