Alleged Murder of District

Magistrate.

THIRTEEN YOUTHS CHARGED

CALCUTTA, January 3,

The trial was opened yesterday of 13 youths, most of whom are students, in connection with the murder in September of Mr. B. E. Burge, district magistrate at Midnaporc.

Counsel for the prosecution said a terrorist plot was framed in 1028 and tho majority of the accussed joined it in 1932. They studied seditious literature and advocated securing independence bv violence.

A rumour had been spread that Mr. Burgo had oppressed the peasants in order to secure taxes, whereupon the accused decided to murder him. They indulged ill target practice with revolvers in a remote jungle.

Mr. Burge was murdered when playing football on September 2. Two mem- t b'ers of the gang, Ananta and Mrigeudra, were killed by Mr. Burgo's guards. The other men, now accused, were armed with revolvers. They remained in the vicinity of the crime.

One of the men, Sailesh Ghosh, was arrested' later and turned King's evidence. He revealed the names of the accused and details of the plot.
