SUCCESSFUL CARNIVAL.

WESTTPORT'S GOOD WEEK. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) "WESTPORT, Tuesday. Wet weather marred the concluding events in the Westport diamond jubilee carnival programme to-day, when a whippet race meeting was held at Patterson Park and a Caledonian picnic at Carter's Junction. Rain in the afternoon drove the Caledonians back to town, but the picnic was continued in the Friendly Societies' Hall, where a dance was also held this evening in aid of the Blackball pipers. The carnival was a most successful one and the week is considered by business people generally to have been the best Christmas week for many years.
