FAT STOCK MARKET. WESTFIELD WEEKLY SALE. Although there was keen demand ■at the opening Westfield fat" stock market of 1934, there was no advance on the prices at the final sale of the old year.' There was a larger yarding than usuai, and all classes sold readily. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., reports: At our. weekly Westfield fat stock market held to-day beef was penned in more than average numbers for the opening sale of 1934. There was a-steady demand for all classes of choice and prime quality cattle, with values firm on a par with the closing sale of last year. Extra choice ox s6ld to 20/ per lOOlb; choice and prime ox, 16/ to 19/; secondary, 13/ to 15/; prime young cow and heifer beef, 16/ to 19/; secondary, 12/ to 13,'. Heavy prime steers ranged in price from £7 to £7 10/; lighter, £6< to £6 17/6; light, £5 to £5 17/6; smalland unfinished, £3 to £4 17/6; heavy prime young cows and heifers, £4 17/6 to £5 10,'; lighter, £3 17/6 to £4 15/; light, £2 10/ to £3 15/; other cows £1 10/ to £2 7/6. Limited, report:— At our weekly Westfield fat sitock market held to-day our beef pens con- ; tained 273 head, as against 213 head prior to the holidays, comprising 172 steers and 101 cows and heifers. Medium and lightweight prime and choice ox sold treely at improved rates. Heavy cattle were unchanged. The cows and heifers penned were generally of ordinary quality and prices were on a par with "the last report. Extra choice ox sold to 20/ per 1001b; choice and prime ox, 17/ to 19/; secondary and plain, 15/ to 16/; prime young cow and heifer beef, 17/ to 19/; ordinary cow beef, 12/ to 15/. Extra heavy. prime steers ranged in price from £7 10/ to £8; heavy prime steers, £7 to £7 7/6; lighter prime steers, £6 to £6 17/0: light prime steers, £5 to £5 17/6; small and unfinished steers, £3 10/ to £4 17/6; extra heavy prime young cows and heifers, £4 10/ to £5; heavy prime cows and heifers, £3 10/ to £4 7/6; lighter prime cows and heifers. £2 10/ to £3 7/6; other killablo cows, 13/ to £2 7/6.
Dalgety and Company, Limited, report: At our weekly Westfield fat stock market held to-day we yarded 182 Lead of beef, comprising 3o steers and 147 cows j and heifers, as against 175 head at the 'last sale of 1033. The quality of the ox 'beef was barely up to standard, but the whole of the offering sold readily at well up to late rates. Extra choice ox sold to "20/ per 1001b: choice and prime ox, 17/ to 10/; secondary plain ox, 14/ to 16/; prime young cow and heifer beef, 16/ to 19/; ordinary cow beef, 12/ to 15/. Heavy prime steers ranged in price from £6 10/ to £6 IS/; lighter prime steers, £5 12/6 to £G 2/6; light prime steers. £4 12/6 to £5 10/; small and unfinished steers, £3 10/ to £4 10/; extra heavy prime young cows and heifers. £5 to £6; heavy pi'inie cows and heifers. £4 to £4 17/6: lighter prime eows and heifers, £3 to £3 17/fl; other killablc cows, £1 15/ to £2 17/0.
