"DRUNKEN AFFAIR."

MEN FINED FOR ASSAUET. "There seems to have been a disgraceful drunken affair in this house," was the comment of Mr. Wyvcrn Wilson, S.M., in the Police Court this morning when Albert Jeffrey, a labourer, aged 37, and George Samber, a labourer, aged 44, were both charged with assault.

Jeffrey pleaded guilty, under provocation, to assaulting Samber, and Samber denied assaulting a woman.

Detective - Sergeant O'Stlllivan said (hat on December 24 Jeffrey am! Samber had been drinking together. When they got home to their house in Grey Avenue Samber made some remark which Jeffrey resented. Jeffrey picked up a glass bowl from the table and threw it at Samber. The bowl smashed on Sambcr's head, and he was taken to hospital with a cut over the eye.

Jeffrey was lined £2 with the altema the of 48 hours in gaol.

When Samber was charged with assaulting tho woman, Jeffrey said accused had been boarding at his house. Accused had passed a remark which witness resented, rushed at witness, and pushed the woman over. Accused: You came in and abused your wife. Witness: Even if I did, that has pot nothing to do with you. You arc only the boarder, and a star boarder at that. Samber was also fined £2 or 4S hours.
