HOMESTEAD THREATENED. AIMING BY TOBCH LIGHT. • •< (By Telegraph.—Press Association * GISBOBN'E, this day; , During the storm last week a homestead at Waingake was threatened by the probable fall of a high pinus insdgnis, several other trees ih the vicinity having been uprooted by the gale. Mr. Selwyn Smith, a young man, and the proprietor of the property, averted damage by lopping 30ft off the tree with a rifle by the light of a torch. Twelve shots_ were fired, weakening the trunk sufficiently for the gale to snap off the top, which fell clear of the house.
