SHATTERING EXPLOSION.—The residence of Mrs. K. Vernon, 96, Khyber Road, wrecked at an early hour this morning by an explosion which resulted from the fusing of underground electric cables. Mrs. Vernon was sleeping in the front room on the second storey, the floor of which was torn out, and, still in bed, she was precipitated to the ground floor below and suffered only a bruised elbow. Her son, Harry, and Terry, the dog, were also thrown from the top storey to the bottom, the dog being scorched by the fire which followed the detonation.
