CHRISTMAS BOWLING.

CONCLUDING ROUNDS. FINAL THIS MORNING. ERASER MEETS CARTER. The Auckland Bowling Centre's annuo] rinks tournament was continued at the Carlton green on Saturday afternoon, when the fourth and fifth rounds of postsection play were concluded at about 6 o'clock. The weather was beautifully fine overhead, the sun shilling from an almost ] cloudless sky all day, but a very strong wind made the play exceptionally erratic, and many a good bowl was blown right out of its intended course. Results: — Fourth Round. Bull, Wilson, H. A. rarland, E. T. Richmond (Epsom), a bye. Grocott, Mason, Clarke, Carter (Carlton) 22, v. Stormont, Ure, McConnell, l'arsons ( Ponsonby) 13. Delamore, Junes, Vivian, Eraser (Mount Eden) 26, v. Green, Bassett, Vella, Wig .i (Onehunga) 19. Macey, McMillan, Mingins, Sheath (Remuera) 24, v. Geraghty, Schnackcnberg, E. J. Gatland, A. R. Gatland (Onehunga) 12. ■> Blair, Harrison, Gordon? Hills (Carlton) 18, v. Sampson, Duncan, Higgott, de Launay (Carlton) 17. Maclclow, Sayers, Livingstone, Robertson (Onehunga) 25, v. Sawyers, Clarke, Barber, Ramsey (Balmoral) 11. Keeling, Mackenzie, C. H. Skinner, Cross (Onehunga) 21, v. Bowler, Watkin, Cahill, Russell (St. Helier's) IS. Played on the usual two-life system, with the automatic draw, the last five losers were eliminated in this round, having suffered two losses, viz.. Wright, Gatland, de Launay, Ramsey and Russell. Fifth Round. Eraser 26, v. Carter 7. Sheath 20, v. Richmond 15. Hills 27, v. Robertson 11. Cross 27, v. Parsons 16. The last two losers were eliminated in this round, viz., Robertson and Parsons, the other two losers still having a remaining "life." This left six rinks to resume postsection play yesterday morning on the Carlton green, the only two-lifers being 1). C. Eraser's Mount Eden rink. . Sixth Round.

The sixth round was played yesterday morning under ideal weather conditions. There was hardly a breath of wind, and a warm sun soon removed the holding ten"dency in the green that was apparent for the first hour or two. By an unusual coincidence eacti of the three matches terminated without the last head being played, the winners having established an unbeatable margin when 20 heads were played. Results:— Eraser 23, v. Sheath 12. Hills 24, v. Cross 15. Carter 27, v. Richmond 16. As all the losers had suffered a loss in an earlier round this loss eliminated them, leaving only three rinks to contest the finals, Eraser's rink being the only twolifers. The Fraser-Sheath match was fairly even until the sixteenth head, when the score stood at 17 —12, Fsaser scoring on the remaining four heads. Hills led all the way against Cross, the score at one time being Carter scored eight points before his opponents started, and maintained a comfortable margin throughout. If Sheath had defeated Fraser there would have been four rinks on equal terms, and the tournament would have run out in two semi-finals and a final, as Eraser's rink would still have remained in the contest with one "life," but as his victory entailed the disappearance of all the three defeated rinks there was a bye in the next round. This went to Hills, as Eraser had already had one on the third round. leaving-the latter to meet Carter. They had already met in the fifth round, when Fraser won by 26 to 7, but in their second contest Carter was 23 to 15 on the twentieth head, and his opponents shook hands without attempting to score dight in one head for a tie. The game would have been .regarded as a peculiar one if similar scoring had not been seen in dozens of other matches. Carter was five to two on the sixth head, and Fraser then ran the score up to 13. Of course this caused the usual speculation as to whether 13 would alter the game, and it did, Carter scoring on all the remaining heads except the seventeenth, in which Fraser played a beautiful trail for two, very similar to the trail which virtually won his match against Wright on Saturday afternoon.

Eighth Round. Carter had the bye, and Fraser defeated Hills by 19 to 15. This was a splendid match, every head being changed with bowl after bowl, in striking contrast with the experience on Friday and Saturday, when the principal difficulty was to defeat the gusty wind. The score was five all, seven all, nine all. but Hills then had the misfortune t6 score out of his turn, and reached 13. tQO soon. That was his undoing, and he scored only two more points, on the last head, with a splendid drive," just as his opponent had scored only two in the previous round after reaching 13. CLUB GAMES.
